THE BUILDING The collections of the City Museum are the result of a careful research pursued by Ing.
Guido Sutermeister from 1925 to 1964 in the city territory and neighbouring areas. Thanks to this enthusiast scholar and through the use of original rests it was possible in 1928 to build a structure that
reproduced the plan of the fifteenth-century residence of the Lampugnani Family and which was to become the seat of the city museum. Therefore the "Museo di Legnano"
keeps mainly archaeological material coming from the town and neighbouring area. They are mostly finds recovered during excavation works for demolition or construction of buildings starting form early 1900, a period of extraordinary prosperity for our area due to mechanical and textile industry development.
The collections have constantly enriched with a wide group of materials coming to the museum from excavations of the Lombardy Government Office for archaeology and from various donations up to 1977. |
